I'm still mesmerized by the amount of things on that table.

And that's without the expansion.
A buddy of mine in college got the game. We used to get together once a week for game nights. The first time we got together after we spent the entire time just breaking out all the little pieces.

That looks intense.
Have you ever tried Heroclix? That is the only game I've played that has come close to 12 hours. It's normally played on paper maps, but I've a friend who made a giant papercraft city.
Nerdometer pegged.

I'm loosely familiar with heroclix, haven't played it, but I have a few I use as minis.

Military units, both space and ground forces, action cards, objective cards, politics cards, system managing cards, technology cards, activation counters, resource tokens...
It gets a tad out of hand, yes.

We used to play strip risk. Only probably not the way you're thinking.
Crank up the heat and put on 3 layers of clothes. Take off clothes when you take a territory and add one when you lose one.

It's good fun, but can get expensive fast. The company that started it folded a few years ago and was bought by NECA. They do a good job with it, but do too many releases. That, coupled with the fact of schedule changes has rendered my 40lbs. of Heroclix dormant.

Sadly, I don't get to play as much lately. Do you still play/collect?

I played briefly when it was first released. Then my buddy got a Thor and it rendered my teams basically useless. He was more into it and bought a Sentinel. The Sentinel was fun to battle.

Yeah, with every release they pretty much make the previous ones useless.

Sweet, how does it play? I've been really interested in it ever since I saw the Shut Up and Sit Down review ( link ). I've been hooked on playing Elderich Horror as of late.

But does it destroy relationships the way Monopoly does?

It plays really well. Just don't be surprised if you find yourself choosing to change it up by pairing people playing it up - it doesn't hurt to have one person planning technology and politics while another person plans military and units on a side. It takes longest when people are still learning, which is very long indeed.

It depends. Introducing a law prohibiting the building of War Suns right in the middle of an SO's military campaign? Cancelling the X'cha's trade agreements so they have no reason to interfere with an invasion of your SO? Secretly planning a betrayal with the aid of the L1z1x Mindnet player? Yeah, there's some backstabbery - just longer-simmering than Monopoly.
